Anime Filmaker Satoshi Kon

In Tokyo, Japan anime filmaker Satoshi Kon died on Tuesday. He was 46 years old. He died through pancreatic cancer. His style in anime is making pixie-like female characters. Also sensitive robots, futuristic cityscapes, and an anxious fascination with the creative and destructive power of technology. Mr. Kon's second feature, "Millennium Actress, " paid homage to masters of Japanese live-action film like Yasujiro Ozu and Akira Kurosawa. Mr. Kon loved to play with the audience and then fool them. He would show one thing and make you realize that you aren't seeing what you think you are seeing. He loved to play with dreams, to play with the borders between the real and the fantastic. Satoshi Kon was born in Hokkaido, Japan, on Oct. 12,1963. He enrolled in the Musashino Art University because he was interested in painting. Then Mr. Kon became more interested in illustrations and began drawing comic books known as manga for the Young magazine.
