According to NPR: Morning Edition and Psychiatrist Emmanuel Mignot who directs the Center of Sleep Sciences in Stanford University of Medicine says that children between the ages of 2 to 5 have doubled in obesity and tripled between the age group of 6 to 11 year olds. After their experiments they found out that children and adults who didn’t get a minimum of 8 hours of sleep a day become more fatter. Emmanuel states one theory, he says the children who sleep late have less energy which causes them to not be as energetic as the others who did sleep for 8 hours or more. It also causes a hormonal change which makes you crave food in high sugar, salt, and fat.
