Cleaner Energy in Europe

About five years ago, about seventeen percent of Portugal's energy was from renewable resources. By the end of twenty-ten, they plan on using forty-five percent clean energy. With these plans, energy prices have gone up fifteen percent in five years due to the renewable energy program.

The oil spill in the Gulf has reminded politicians and citizens alike about the need for clean energy. Europe has been leading the way for cleaner resources, Portugal number eighteen on some lists, with the U.S. lagging behind. Obama has been planning on catching up, but politics always get in the way, it seems.

Cleaner energy in Europe will set the trend for renewable resources in the rest of the world. In fact, Korea is making an energy-efficient island, easily following suit. Europe and parts of Asia have entered the future, why don’t we, the U.S.?
