500 Raped in Eastern Congo

The U.N. approximates that about 500 women were raped in Eastern Cong during July and August. This attests that the rebel militias are using sexual abuse as an ordance as reported by two U.N. officials. About a month ago U.N. officials brought to light that a large number of women had been gang raped, that number has dramatically increased to 242 women in 13 villages in the North Kivu Province. Of those 242, 28 were minors. Atul Khare senior official and deputy of peacekeeping was sent to investigate and told the security council on Tuesday that at the very least 257 had been raped in North Kivu and South Kivu Provinces, for a staggering total of 499 victims. Sadly the latest victims reported were between 7 and 21 years old. More than 15,000 rapes are known about for the years 2008 and 2009. The latest rapes reported include at least 10 done by goverment soldiers.

Reading this made me stop and hold my breath.
Rape is a violation, and that's insane. And it's not simple violation, like if someone was looking through your belongings. You take away the feeling of control over someone's body, when you rape them. That's one of the sickest things. And at the end it was mentioned that ten were done by government soldiers.
So the people meant to protect have secrets too.
What does that say about the rest of the "authority" in the world?

I complete agree with the comment above me.My heart goes out to all the strong woman who have had to deal with rape. It is so heart breaking that there are such sick people in the world. Anyone and especially the government soldiers should be ashamed of themselves. I wish I could find the words to say how I feel right now.

How can those goverment soldiers even call themselves soldiers? They should be arrested and put in jail for what they did. I hope those gov. soldiers were arrested if they weren't then God almighty have mercy on their souls. Just thinking about this makes me feel angry, sad, and just sick to the bottom of my stomach. I feel bad for those woman that had to go through that horrible thing.
