My name is David and I am 19 years old. I am from Britain and come from a family of three, consisting
of my little brother Charlie and my parents. Right now, people are saying that we are on the verge of a World War II. But since the Prime Minister appeased Hitler awhile back, I was pretty sure that Britain would be safe for a little while. As I was playing with my little brother Charlie today, I overheard the news saying that the Munich Agreement was signed. Hitler, Mussolini, Chamberlain and Daldier agreed to Hitler gaining Sudetenland, Hungary and Poland couldn’t touch Czechoslavakia, and Britain and Germany wouldn’t go to war. This makes me hopeful since I just newly enlisted into the army. I possibly won’t leave anytime soon, just as long Hitler keeps to the agreements.

I was starting to get comfortable at home to the fact that there was peace amongst the countries. It has been a little over a year, and home is very calm and peaceful. Charlie and I have been working at home supporting the family. It wasn’t until a couple months ago when Hitler forced Lithuania of their lands. After that, Hitler threatened to bomb Prague, forcing the Czechs tos urrender. The Munich Agreement was a complete failure to stop Hitler from invading more lands! I was given the news by a messenger that I will have to leave home in a couple of days so that Britain can reassemble their army. I’m not sure if this means I’m fighting in a war or something, but I just hope that nothing bad happens. We have to protect Britian and Poland. I am going to miss home so much.

It is now official: Germany has invaded Poland and the world is soon to be at war with e
achother. The Germans had invaded West Prussia and Posen today and used Blitzkrieg war tactics. I heard from the base unit that Poland was just suddenly attacked out of nowhere from the air and land. I’m pretty sure many innocent people were killed and Poland is in criticle condition. The Polish army is slowly being taken away of their land. I am to help defend Britain and Poland with many other troops soon. We were told we would declare war on them too. I hope this war ends quick. I will be nothing but ready to go home. I can’t even imagine being away from my family for months, but even worse if I don’t come home at all. I hope I can call Mom, Pops and Charlie before I leave.

Britain has not done much to help Poland. I would’ve thought we would be putting in more of an effort to help protect an ally, but instead we are just sitting here waiting. The Soviets had signed a Non-Aggression Pact with the Germans. The past couple of days, we have been sitting around the camp and doing nothing but wait for our to commander to tell us what to do. This just makes the Germans even more of a threat since they have the largest, powerful country on their side. Well, after writing this I will stop logging what’s going on. Poor little Charlie is probably sitting at home alone and scared. I just hope that Charlie, Mom and Dad are safe at home and I come home soon enough for Christmas.

Dear David,
My name is Catherine. I live in the USA but as I read about the stories you and your brother Charlie wrote I found that I shared some of the same experiences. Just like you, my brother had to leave to help fight in the war. I didn't know what was going on and I'm glad to see that you and my brother helped to fight off the bad guys, but at different times. Looking back at the time my brother was gone I can put myself into Charlie's shoes and see that he definitely missed you just as much as I missed my brother, but when you were there you both kept us safe and strong. Without older brothers like you we wouldn't be who we are today. So thank you!
